Honour Based Abuse

Honour-based abuse refers to acts of violence, typically against women, that are committed in order to protect or defend the perceived honour of a family or community. This can include practices such as forced marriage, female genital mutilation, and other forms of control and abuse. It is a serious violation of human rights and must be addressed through education, awareness, and strong legal protections to ensure the safety and autonomy of individuals at risk.

Professionals working with young children impacted by honour-based abuse should prioritize the safety and well-being of the child above all else. It is crucial to have a thorough understanding of the cultural and social dynamics at play, while also recognizing the legal and ethical obligations to protect the child from harm.
